The Decider’s Last Days in Office: Dodging Shoes

President George W. Bush’s recent encounter with the shoe throwing Baghdad television reporter was an immediate iconic moment.  In the highly revealing, unscripted episode, the universally discredited “Decider” was revealed in a manner that every sentient adult can understand.  The immense uncertainty which flashed across Bush’s face as he ducked the in-coming size 10 shoes shattered the crumbling façade of invincibility behind which he has strode and preened on the world stage for eight awesomely destructive years.

Proper Tone/Appropriate Procedure

Although I have arguably been a professional writer for more than 40 years, and been published in various kinds of formats in several nations, I must acknowledge that I am more than a little perplexed by some of the problems associated with posting information on the Internet.  Prior to the arrival of this incredibly empowering medium, virtually all printed material distributed for mass consumption was subjected to a process of editing and review based on canons established and enforced over centuries.  However keen the writer, oversights occur.  In the best of circumstances, editors exist to catch such oversights and make them right before the material is approved for publication and distribution.

They Used to Call it “Paradise”

Lamu, Kenya was a properous island community for centuries. All that came to an end with the invention of the steamship, which altered trade routes in the Indian Ocean in favor of Mombasa on the mainland.  Lamu’s residents remain fiercely loyal to their former “paradise,” despite the fact that these days most of them are desperately poor.
